House of Guinness: Legacy & Legends Walking Tour

Step into the real history behind one of Ireland’s most iconic families on this immersive walking tour through Dublin. The House of Guinness: Legacy & Legends Walking Tour blends fact, drama, and lived heritage, tracing how the Guinness family shaped not just a world-famous stout, but the city itself.

Tour Overview

This immersive 2.5-hour walking tour blends fact, drama, and Dublin’s rich heritage as we trace the Guinness family legacy across the city, guided by the real stories behind the characters brought to life on screen.

We begin at Dublin’s oldest pub, The Brazen Head, a historic gathering place long associated with merchants, rebels, and storytellers. Here, your expert local guide sets the scene, introducing the social and political world in which the Guinness name first rose to prominence.

From there, we follow in the footsteps of Arthur Guinness and his descendants, exploring how one family built far more than a brewing empire. Along the way, you’ll uncover how the Guinness legacy became deeply woven into Ireland’s cultural, political, and social fabric — from philanthropy and power to rivalry and reputation.

As the story unfolds across the streets of Dublin, the line between television drama and real-world history becomes clearer, revealing the people, places, and decisions that shaped both the family and the city.

The tour concludes at a local pub, where you can raise a glass of the black stuff and reflect on the journey — seeing every sip in a new light after walking through centuries of history, legacy, and legend.

Whether you’re a fan of the series, a history enthusiast, or simply curious about Dublin’s most influential family, the House of Guinness: Legacy & Legends Walking Tour offers a compelling experience where storytelling, heritage, and place come together.

The base walking tour lasts 2.5 hours, with the option to upgrade and include the Guinness Storehouse, extending the experience to 4 hours for those who want to take it further.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the House of Guinness: Legacy & Legends Walking Tour in Dublin?

LetzGo City Tours’ House of Guinness walking tour is an outdoor walking experience that traces the Guinness family’s extraordinary impact on Dublin, beyond the famous stout. Starting at St James’s Gate, your guide covers the Guinness Storehouse exterior and the 9,000-year lease signed by Arthur Guinness in 1759, then walks through Iveagh Gardens (gifted to Dublin by the Guinness family), St Stephen’s Green (also restored using Guinness philanthropy), and the legacy landmarks that shaped the modern city.

Is the House of Guinness walking tour different from the Guinness Storehouse visit?

Yes, LetzGo City Tours’ Legacy & Legends walking tour is a guided outdoor experience focused on the Guinness family’s historic and philanthropic footprint across Dublin, rather than the interactive brewing exhibits inside the Storehouse. The two experiences complement each other perfectly: the walking tour gives you the full Guinness story in context, while the Storehouse offers the self-guided brewing exhibition and Gravity Bar pint. Many guests combine both on the same day and when booking this tour you are able to add an upgrade to also include the storehouse.

What areas of Dublin does the Guinness walking tour cover?

The tour covers a curated route through south and south-west Dublin, including the St James’s Gate Brewery gates, the Liberties neighbourhood (Dublin’s historic brewing quarter), Iveagh Gardens, Iveagh House, and St Stephen’s Green. Your guide weaves together the family story, from Arthur Guinness I through the aristocratic Guinness philanthropists, connecting each location to the generations who shaped both the brand and the physical fabric of the Irish capital. If you upgrade your tickets you also get entry tickets and full briefing for the Guinness Storehouse.

What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?

We offer free cancellation and free rescheduling on all bookings made more than 24 hours before your scheduled tour departure time. If your plans change, simply contact us as early as possible and we will rebook you onto another available date at no additional charge.

Cancellations or changes requested less than 24 hours before departure are not possible, and the booking will be treated as non-refundable. This policy exists because our tours operate with a limited number of guests, and last-minute cancellations prevent us from offering the spot to other travellers.

We strongly recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred date, particularly during peak travel seasons (June to September) when availability fills quickly. If you are booking for a group, please contact us directly before completing your booking so we can advise on availability and any group-specific arrangements.

Is this tour accessible for guests with reduced mobility or physical limitations?

We want to be transparent about this so that every guest can make an informed decision before booking. This tour is not currently recommended for guests using wheelchairs, motorised scooters or other mobility assistance devices. The tour route includes a significant amount of walking and covers surfaces that can be challenging, including cobblestones, hills, inclines, declines and stairs across both venues.

Strollers and baby carriages cannot be accommodated on this tour.

We also ask that all participants be in good general health. If you have a medical condition or are not accustomed to regular exercise, we recommend consulting your doctor before booking.

If you have specific mobility concerns and are unsure whether this tour is right for you, please contact us before booking — we will always advise honestly based on your situation, and we can explore whether alternative tour options or arrangements may be more suitable.
