Frequently Asked Questions

What does LetzGo's Kylemore Abbey and Connemara tour include?

LetzGo’s 2.5-hour Kylemore Abbey tour is a fly-drive experience — guests meet the guide on location in Connemara rather than travelling by coach — and includes admission to Kylemore Abbey and the Victorian Walled Gardens. The guided experience covers the restored historic rooms of the abbey, the Glasshouses, the Head Gardener’s House and Flower Gardens, and the Gothic church on the lakeshore inspired by 14th-century English Gothic architecture. The guide provides the history of the Mitchell Henry family who built Kylemore, and the Benedictine nuns who have run the abbey since 1920.

What are the Victorian Walled Gardens at Kylemore Abbey?

The Victorian Walled Gardens at Kylemore Abbey are a remarkable 2.6-hectare walled garden originally created in the 1870s for Mitchell Henry, a wealthy Victorian philanthropist and MP who built Kylemore Castle as a gift for his wife Margaret. The gardens were restored in the 1990s after decades of dereliction and now contain a working kitchen garden, the original Glasshouses with specialist collections, and the Head Gardener’s House. Admission to the Walled Gardens is included in LetzGo’s tour price, and the guide covers the Victorian garden design principles behind the restoration.

Where is Kylemore Abbey, and how does LetzGo's tour reach it?

Kylemore Abbey is located in the heart of Connemara in County Galway, approximately 67 kilometres from Galway City on the shores of Lough Pollucapal beneath the slopes of the Twelve Bens mountain range. LetzGo’s tour uses a fly-drive format, meaning guests make their own way to Kylemore and meet the guide on location — this makes the experience more flexible and ensures maximum time at the abbey rather than on a coach. The guide provides detailed meeting point instructions when booking is confirmed.

What is the cancellation and rescheduling policy?

We offer free cancellation and free rescheduling on all bookings made more than 24 hours before your scheduled tour departure time. If your plans change, simply contact us as early as possible and we will rebook you onto another available date at no additional charge.

Cancellations or changes requested less than 24 hours before departure are not possible, and the booking will be treated as non-refundable. This policy exists because our tours operate with a limited number of guests, and last-minute cancellations prevent us from offering the spot to other travellers.

We strongly recommend booking in advance to secure your preferred date, particularly during peak travel seasons (June to September) when availability fills quickly. If you are booking for a group, please contact us directly before completing your booking so we can advise on availability and any group-specific arrangements.

Is this tour accessible for guests with reduced mobility or physical limitations?

We want to be transparent about this so that every guest can make an informed decision before booking. This tour is not currently recommended for guests using wheelchairs, motorised scooters or other mobility assistance devices. The tour route includes a significant amount of walking and covers surfaces that can be challenging, including cobblestones, hills, inclines, declines and stairs across both venues.

Strollers and baby carriages cannot be accommodated on this tour.

We also ask that all participants be in good general health. If you have a medical condition or are not accustomed to regular exercise, we recommend consulting your doctor before booking.

If you have specific mobility concerns and are unsure whether this tour is right for you, please contact us before booking — we will always advise honestly based on your situation, and we can explore whether alternative tour options or arrangements may be more suitable.
